Despite putting up a brave face, Vanessa Trump is not handling news of her estranged husband's new girlfriend very well, sources say.
On Wednesday, Don Jr. attacked Daily News columnist Linda Stasi over her column calling on Fox News to consider firing pundit Kimberly Guilfoyle for her reluctance to address the nature of her relationship with the President’s namesake while reporting on national politics. He claimed that Stasi’s language was racist, sexist and hypocritical.
Vanessa Trump joined Don Jr.’s social media defense on Thursday and in doing so seemed to acknowledge his relationship with “The Five” host.
“The lengths people will go to attack a woman simply because she’s dating Don,” she tweeted. “We’ve been separated for over 9 months and respect each other’s decisions & privacy. We’ll focus on raising our great kids. Would be nice if the press did the same rather than obsess over our pvt lives!”

Marital woes aside, Vanessa and Don Jr., who have five children together, are still living under the same roof. According to sources close to the situation, that arrangement had become increasingly complicated as news of Don Jr.’s relationship with Guilfoyle played out in the press.
“(Vanessa) has got a very short fuse these days,” an insider close to the family told The News. “She’s noticeably different and difficult to deal with. She used to be the cool one.”
Vanessa filed for divorce in March after 12 years of marriage.
Don Jr. often spends time with Guilfoyle in her Upper West Side apartment, while the secret service keeps watch, according to sources. The use of government resources has angered some locals, one of whom mockingly asked “Draining the swamp?” after seeing two black SUVs parked outside Guilfoyle’s building.

Us Weekly, a sister publication of Trump-friendly tabloid the National Enquirer, reported last week that the pair had enjoyed public outings at hot spots, including Omar’s and The Grill, where they were spotted “laughing all throughout lunch” and taking photos with fellow diners.
Don Jr.’s mom Ivana, the President’s first wife, recently raised eyebrows by reportedly suggesting her “good-looking” and “successful” son would rebound well after his divorce, but that Vanessa may have a problem “because she has five kids.”
Some may beg to differ.
The former model who was romantically linked to Leonardo Di Caprio before meeting Don Jr., may find civilian life much more relaxing than the Trump family circus that kicked into overdrive in when her husband’s dad was elected President.
According to a second source close to the situation, Vanessa was rattled by a February incident where she opened a piece of hate mail containing a white powder that had been sent to her mother’s Upper East Side home. The powder turned out to be harmless, but she was taken to an area hospital as a protective measure.
Vanessa, whom that source describes as “sweet” and “a very private person” also had to suffer the indignity of seeing news that she’d dated a gang member almost 25 years ago, when she was 16, splashed across tabloid pages last month.
A spokeswoman for Vanessa says her client has kept her cool despite the drama surrounding her soon-to-be ex-husband.
“Your ‘sources’ alleging Vanessa has had a ‘short fuse’ recently are simply wrong,” according to the rep. “Vanessa is doing well and her priority is taking care of her five beautiful children.”
