An actor and model slashed himself in the neck outside his Greenwich Village home after a fight with his girlfriend over a breakup Monday morning, police said.
Damon Tolstoy, 49, was standing on his stoop at Bank Street near Waverly Place when he stabbed himself just after 8 a.m., leaving a trail of blood on the steps, according to authorities.
The building is next to the Waverly Inn restaurant, a celebrity haunt in the upscale West Village neighborhood.
Tolstoy was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
"I turn around to see him inside the ambulance — his head was hunched down,” said Roberto Nepoceno, 48, who works nearby. “There was blood dripping down. I thought someone had hit him.”
"The EMT was trying to find out if he was conscious,” he added. “He kept asking him, 'You hear me? You hear me?' He could only moan."
The heartsick model was often spotted walking his beloved bulldog around the neighborhood, Nepoceno said.

A woman who works as a superintendent next door said there was no hint of problems. "He seemed happy," she said. "This is really shocking."
The Harley Davidson eyewear model has appeared in a commercial for Jim Beam whiskey and in ads featured in Esquire and Max Italy, according to his website. He's also had roles in two "Law and Order" episodes, and was filmed in the Discovery Channel's show "Fighting Tuna."
