A 23-year-old woman who had a miscarriage dumped her unborn child in a garbage can on a Harlem sidewalk then told nurses where she discarded the fetus after checking into a hospital, police sources said Friday.
Bellevue Hospital staff called police after learning that the mother, who was not immediately identified, left the fetus near Amsterdam Ave. near W. 131st St. around 3:30 p.m. Thursday, according to authorities.
Cops canvassed the block only to make a bleak discovery — an unborn child tossed in the trash, police said.
The age and gender of the fetus have not yet been determined.

The city medical examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine how the child died.
There were no immediate arrests.
