The prison lifer who Kim Kardashian crusaded for at the White House sent a letter to the reality star to thank her for her efforts.
Alice Marie Johnson — who remains behind bars after being convicted for a first-time, non-violent drug offense in 1996 — expressed her gratitude after Kardashian met with President Trump on Wednesday to discuss prison reform and attempt to help Johnson get pardoned.
"Dear Ms. Kardashian, I am so humbled by what you are doing and have already done on my behalf," Johnson, 63, wrote in the letter, which Kardashian shared on her Instagram story.
“You are literally helping to save my life and restore me to my family,” she continued. “I was drowning and you have thrown me a life jacket and given me hope that this Life jacket I’m serving may one day be taken off."
Johnson, who is imprisoned in Alabama, also reflected on feeling shocked when she learned Kardashian, 37, was fighting for her cause. The inmate, who is a great-grandmother, was sentenced to life in prison for her connection to a drug-trafficking ring.

Kardashian tweeted that she’s “optimistic about Ms. Johnson’s future” following her meeting with the President.
“I would like to thank President Trump for his time this afternoon,” Kardashian wrote Wednesday evening. “It is our hope that the President will grant clemency to Ms. Alice Marie Johnson who is serving a life sentence for a first-time, non-violent drug offense.”
Trump, meanwhile, shared a photo with the reality star to his Twitter page after her trip to the White House.
“Great meeting with @KimKardashian today, talked about prison reform and sentencing,” he wrote along with the picture, which they took in the Oval Office.
Johnson, who was previously denied clemency in 2014 when President Barack Obama was in office, said in her letter that she believes she and Kardashian are part of something bigger than her own cause.
"There are defining moments in history that have shaped the destiny of this nation," she wrote. "I believe that we are part of a defining moment."
