Howie Day, a one-hit wonder best known for his 2004 track "Collide," was tossed in jail last month after a "tantrum" at a Seattle airport allegedly escalated into an assault on his long-term girlfriend.
Day, 37, was awaiting pick-up at Seattle's Sea-Tac Airport by his girlfriend Carrie Pencek when he, as per surveillance footage, flew into a tantrum and threw his guitar case to the ground, TMZ reports.
Pencek, who has been dating the singer for eight years, arrived shortly after, at which point Day allegedly directed his anger first toward the hatch of his vehicle, and then toward Pencek.
The gossip site reports Day began shouting at and pushing Pencek as she exited her car to help him with his bags, forcing her to seek help from a police officer.
Day, who fled the scene, was arrested and charged with one count of fourth-degree assault. He pleaded not guilty, and will appear in court later this month, according to TMZ.
Pencek reportedly told cops such behavior is normal for Day when he's intoxicated, and that he has been "upset because his career's stalled" and he is strapped for cash.
"Collide" was a massive hit upon its release in 2004, and peaked at No. 20 on the Billboard Hot 100. The track has also been featured in a slew of popular TV series, including "Grey's Anatomy," "One Tree Hill," "Scrubs" and "Friday Night Lights."
It's not the singer's first brush with the law; TMZ reports Day was previously arrested for punching Pencek in the face, though the case was later dismissed as Pencek refused to cooperate.
He was also busted in 2004 for allegedly locking a woman in a tour bus bathroom after she rejected his sexual advances, and for breaking the cell phone of a second woman who tried to call police.
Two years later, he was arrested at Logan International Airport after allegedly verbally abusing the flight crew on a Boston-bound plane while under the influence of alcohol and sleeping pills.
