Central Michigan University student shot parents dead in dorm

A student at Central Michigan University shot and killed his parents in a dorm following a "domestic" dispute early Friday, and remains at large.
The suspect's father, James Davis Sr.,48, was a part-time police officer who had been with the  Bellwood, Il. police department since 1999. He was also a part-time officer at the Department of Veterans Affairs in Hines, Il. His mother, Diva Davis, was a 47-year-old real estate broker, according to her Facebook page.
Rep. Chris Welch identified the shooting victims as Davis Jr.'s parents. The school earlier said that the fatal shooting "started from a domestic situation."
"Stay clear of Campbell hall! There were shots fired. Stay safe Chippewas!" the university tweeted at 9:05 a.m. on Friday.

Cops are still looking for 19-year-old James Eric Davis Jr. The teen was seen wearing mustard-yellow jeans and a blue hoodie.
A neighbor described the suspect as one of the most "peaceful, low-key dudes" he had ever met.
"Just saw 8 cop cars drive by me on campus. Got a call 1 minute later saying there was a shooting on CMU campus. Crazy world," Twitter user Tim Wilson wrote.

Another person tweeted: "I’m on CMU’s campus at work right now and just got a call that there was shots fired in the towers and they haven’t said anything about having the suspect in custody or anyone being hurt just that there was gunfire and I’m pretty terrified!!!"
Campus police Lt. Larry Klaus said guns are not allowed on school grounds, according to NBC News. "We have a gun free policy on the campus," he said.
Some schools in the area are locked down as a precaution, according to the Mt. Pleasant Morning Sun

The city of Mount Pleasant tweeted that the suspect is considered "armed and dangerous. More information will be shared as it becomes available."
A CMU student told the Daily News that law enforcement officials searched his home during the sweep for the suspect. Fifth-year senior Rick Adams said that possible FBI agents became interested in the house after noticing the cellar behind it. They went into the house, located on the first block north of campus, but left after five minutes, he said.
Adams said the university called at 1:05 p.m. to let those in his house know that the suspect was still at large.

Davis was believed to have been released from a nearby hospital early Friday morning. He had been taken to a hospital by campus police because of a drug-related health problem, possibly an overdose, according to cops.
Lt. Klaus says surveillance footage shows that Davis fled on foot. The suspect has apparently been shedding certain clothes since the shooting took place around 8:30 a.m.
Friday was the last day of classes before spring break. Parents attempting to pick up students are being asked to stay off campus. The school says parents are being told to go to a local hotel in Mount Pleasant where staff would help them.
Gov. Rick Snyder tweeted that "I am in constant contact with @MichStatePolice as they work w/local law enforcement to determine what has occurred at Central Michigan University. The priority right now is the safety of those still on campus and I thank all first responders involved for their swift action."
More than 20,000 students attend the university.  Halie Byron said she locked herself in her off-campus house, a 10-minute walk from where the shooting took place.
"It's scary thinking about how easy a shooter can come into a college campus anywhere — a classroom, a library. There's so much easy access," the 20-year-old Byron said.
