A day after defending an ex-White House aide accused of domestic violence, President Trump complained Saturday that lives are being “destroyed” by a “mere allegation.”
Trump posted the tweet in apparent response to the controversy over former White House staff secretary Rob Porter, who resigned after two ex-wives publicly accused him of physically abusing them.
“Peoples lives are being shattered and destroyed by a mere allegation. Some are true and some are false. Some are old and some are new,” Trump wrote.
“There is no recovery for someone falsely accused - life and career are gone. Is there no such thing any longer as Due Process?”

Porter’s first wife accused him of punching her in the face while they were on vacation in Italy, and shared a photo of her bruised and swollen black eye. His second wife also accused him of physical and psychological abuse. Porter has denied any wrongdoing.
A second White House aide, speechwriter David Sorensen, also resigned Friday after his ex-wife accused him of running over her foot, putting out a cigarette on her hand, and throwing her into a wall, the Washington Post reported. He also denied the allegations but said he was stepping down because he didn’t want to be a distraction.
Trump on Friday wished Porter well and said he did a “very good job” and “worked very hard,” stressing that the ex-staffer had maintained his innocence.
