Two soldiers were killed when their Apache helicopter crashed early Saturday during a training mission in southern California, officials said.
The helicopter crashed at Fort Irwin, a training area in the Mojave Desert, Army spokesman Lt. Col. Jason Brown said in a statement.
Fox News reports the pilot and co-pilot were flying a gunship based in the Army’s 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carson in Colorado.
Another official, who was not identified, said the soldiers were participating in a readiness training exercise at the time of the crash, the report states.
The Army did not immediately clarify when the helicopter crashed Saturday morning.
The names of the two soldiers were not released, pending family notification.
