British authorities arrested two men after they reportedly foiled a terrorist attack to assassinate Prime Minister Theresa May.
Naa'imur Zakariyah Rahman, 20, of north London, and Mohammed Aqib Imran, 21, of Birmingham, were arrested on terrorism charges for an alleged suicide plot to detonate explosives at May’s Downing Street residence, Sky News reported Tuesday.
“This is something which has been pursued over several weeks at least by Scotland Yard, MI5 and West Midlands Police,” the British TV station said.
The men are scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.
The plot was one of nine terrorist attacks on the UK foiled by British intelligence in the past year, according to Sky News.
The arrests come as a new report revealed that British intelligence could have prevented the terror attack in Manchester, according to the Independent.
Suicide bomber Salman Abedi detonated an explosive at an Ariana Grande concert that killed 22 people on May 22.
