President Trump went on the offensive Tuesday, responding to calls for his resignation by saying that Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand was once willing to “do anything” in exchange for campaign donations.
The New York Democrat said a day earlier that the commander-in-chief should step down over “credible” and “numerous” allegations of sexual harassment against him.
Trump pushed back on Twitter, claiming that Gillibrand had “come to my office ‘begging’ for campaign contributions not so long ago (and would do anything for them).”
Trump last donated to Gillibrand in 2010, making a pair of contributions of $2,400 each to her campaign.

His daughter Ivanka Trump, donated $2,000 to Gillibrand in 2014.

Gillibrand said on Monday that the recent avalanche of sexual harassment allegations against powerful men in politics, media and Hollywood — which led to the recent resignation of Democratic Sen. Al Franken — has led her to call on Trump to step down or face a congressional probe.

Several women accusing the President of sexual assault and misconduct held a press conference on Monday, calling for Trump to be investigated for his past behavior.
“You cannot silence me or the millions of women who have gotten off the sidelines to speak out about the unfitness and shame you have brought to the Oval Office,” Gillibrand responded on Tuesday.
If Trump refuses to resign, Gillibrand told CNN that Congress should launch a sweeping investigation into the President, who stands accused of sexually harassing or assaulting nearly two dozen women.

“I’ve heard these women’s testimony and many of them are heartbreaking," Gillibrand said. “Whether (Trump) will ever hold himself accountable is something you really can’t hold your breath for so Congress should have hearings.”
The potential 2020 presidential candidate stunned her fellow Democrats last month by declaring that former President Bill Clinton should have stepped down during the Monica Lewinski scandal.
Gillibrand — a longtime Clinton ally — took over Hillary Clinton’s Senate seat when the former First Lady took over the State Department in 2009.
The Albany native has spent the past year confronting Trump on Capitol Hill, voting against all but one of his cabinet picks and posts requiring Senate confirmation.
