Police responding to a Connecticut car crash are now investigating an alleged murder after they found a slain 16-year-old girl inside.
Evalyce Santiago was found shot in the head Monday night as officers in Waterbury, Conn., found a silver Nissan crashed into utility poles.
She was pronounced dead at the scene and police told WFSB that they arrested a “visibly shaken” Dominique Pittman, the 27-year-old man she was reportedly dating.
The legal age of consent in Connecticut is 16, though it was not clear how long the pair were together.
Family members grieving the death told WFSB that Pittman has three children with Santiago's sister.
Police said that the suspect, who was driving the car, opened fire before the crash, and escaped with only bumps and bruises.

It is not known what immediately preceded the shooting.
“Evelyce had a vibrant life ahead of her. She was full of joy and laughter and knew how to light up a room,” reads a GoFundMe page set up by loved ones asking for help with funeral expenses.
The page had raised more than $800 as of late Tuesday.
Pittman is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday on murder and weapon charges.
